Carolyn is Leaving!

22nd August 2008 / Posted on Rye message board

Dave Rodwell:

After three happy years of trading in the High Street, Carolyn's Boutique is closing on 30 August. A clearance sale is currently ongoing with at least 70% off most items.

Carolyn, Sandra and the staff would like to thank all of our customers for your support and welcome you to join them in this, their last week of trading. Our thanks also go to Oliver and his team at Domain Support for their help and assistance.

Will this help you?

Dave Rodwell:

Lawson Wood lived in Groombridge Kent, before his death in 1957 he moved to Sidmouth Devon. Wood’s eccentricity is reflected in his purchase of a Sussex Manor House he had demolished and moved brick-by-brick and rebuilt in Groombridge.

Late Night Shopping

24th November 2007 / Posted on Rye message board

Dave Rodwell:

Yes it's here again! Mark the 30 November into your diary to come into Rye for our pre Christmas shopping night. This year it will be even better than previous years with Santa, some drummers, children's choirs, jugglers even a piper all followed by a spectacular firework display. The event starts at 5.30 with a procession from Rye Station.

While you are here why not call into Carolyn's Boutique in the High Street to benefit from massive savings up to 50% on selected stock, the sale is for one night only and should not be missed. Visit our website to get an idea of our extensive range of ladies fashions and lingerie.

Advice wanted

2nd June 2007 / Posted on Rye message board

Dave Rodwell:

Jackie,

I live in Fairlight and commuted daily to London via Hastings, the train journey is in the order of 1h 40m to Charing Cross. From Rye you would have to get either to Hastings or to Ashford, then from Ashford I would estimate another 1h 40m. Either route would cause you about a six hour commute.

I now drive to Stokenchurch in Buckinghamshire once a week and can confirm that the M25 is as bad as ever. I would expect your husband to endure at least two hours either way.

Rye is a beautiful place, but is not for the daily commuter. Working locally is great but it does not deliver London salaries.

A tough call, but it depends on your need to commute for 30 hours to deliver a 37 hour package of work.

Of course the above timings are all best case! I am not being negative, this is a realistic answer to your question from one who has endured it for many years.

Commuting to London

28th April 2007

Dave Rodwell:

Ellie,

You are well served by either, Etchingham or Stonegate. Dependent on your exact location you should check the routes and car parking, but I suspect that Etchingham will be your better option. Both stations have a good service to Charing Cross and Cannon Street.

Things to Do

17th April 2007 / Posted on Rye message board

Dave Rodwell:

Julie,

This depends on the ages of the members of your party, but without doubt you should investigate Mermaid Street and the Mermaid Inn, take a walk around the Strand by the river, visit the Ypres Tower, climb to the top of the church for wonderful views across the whole area out as far as the White Cliffs, walk to Rye Castle, then visit Rye Harbour for the wildlife. For shopping stroll the full length of the High Street and associated streets and passages off it and, finally do some shopping, I can recommend Carolyn's Boutique midway along the High Street for wonderful fashions. Then just 3 miles away is Camber Sands with the dunes and a breathtaking beach, a great and safe place for children.

Most importantly, enjoy your stay in our wonderful town.

Internet Cafe

14th April 2007 / Posted on Rye message board

Dave Rodwell:

Caroline,

A bit of a limited choice really, there is a computer shop in the covered market on the first floor. The last time that I was in there they had just one internet terminal for customer use. There was an internet cafe by the station but they closed due to lack of demand.

I hope this helps.

Dave Rodwell:

Victoria,

I have a glimmer of hope for you regards the book. It is currently out of stock, but, sold by The Martello Bookshop, 26 High Street Rye. It is a combination of words and pictures (all mono).
I leave you to pursue this with them directly, they are contactable on 01797 222242, apologies as I do not know the International Dialling Codes.

Good luck with your search and I hope that I have been able to assist in some small way.

Here's to a good 2007 for us all.
